Mora, Ruiz hurt on same play in Colorado

Published May. 12, 2010 10:29 p.m. ET

Colorado Rockies second baseman Melvin Mora and Philadelphia Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz were injured on the same play in the fourth inning Wednesday and both had to leave the game.

Playing second base with Troy Tulowitzki (thigh) out and Clint Barmes at shortstop, Mora had to stretch to his right to grab third baseman Ian Stewart's throw to complete a double play on a groundball by Ruiz.

Mora wasn't able to make the relay throw to first for a possible triple play, but Ruiz injured his right knee running out the groundball. He was replaced by pinch-runner Paul Hoover once he reached third base following a double by the next hitter, Wilson Valdez.

The Phillies said Ruiz was day-to-day.
