Metro to stay open late for Nats postseason games

An online coupon company based in Washington has agreed to foot the bill for keeping the Metro subway system open late during the Washington Nationals' playoff run.

Metro announced Thursday that LivingSocial will put down the $29,500 deposit to keep the trains running for an extra hour. Metro closes at midnight, but postseason games can run later.

Last month, some fans were stranded at Nationals Park after a 13-inning victory over Atlanta. That led District of Columbia officials to pledge that they'd find a way to keep Metro open late during the playoffs.

LivingSocial will be reimbursed for part or all of its deposit based on how many people use Metro during the extended hours.

The Nationals lead the NL East and have clinched at least a wild-card spot.
