Marlins' Coghlan undergoes surgery

Florida Marlins left fielder Chris Coghlan underwent left knee surgery Wednesday, and is beginning rehabilitation after being hurt during a victory celebration.

The reigning NL Rookie of the Year had surgery to repair a torn meniscus by medical director Dr. Lee Kaplan in Miami. He is scheduled to begin rehab immediately.

Marlins interim manager Edwin Rodriguez said that the team hoped Coghlan would respond well enough to play late this season, but he wasn't counting on it.

Coghlan hurt himself July 25 delivering a celebratory pie to the face of teammate Wes Helms after a game-winning hit against Atlanta. He was hitting .268 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 91 games, after hitting .321 last season.
