Kendall Graveman getting second chance with A's soon

Oakland A's right-hander Kendall Graveman struggled out of the gate in 2015, going 1-2 with an 8.27 ERA in four starts with his new club, but he'll get a second chance this weekend.

Graveman, allowed 24 hits and 15 earned runs over 16 1/3 IP before being optioned to Triple-A to work on his mechanics.

He's getting the call on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in place of lefty Drew Pomeranz, who hit the 15-day disabled list earlier this week. Joe Stiglich of CSN Bay Area reported the news after manager Bob Melvin informed the media of it on Thursday afternoon.

In Graveman, the A's have a 24-year-old starter with the potential to be a relatively solid addition to the rotation - if he's able to 'put it together' at the big league level. He was one of the key pieces in the A's trade of Josh Donaldson to the Toronto Blue Jays, and Oakland is hoping he'll make good on the prospect promise he displayed in Toronto's system.

They'll have a chance to see if he's made any strides when he takes the ball on Saturday.
