Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Piazza announce their caps for Hall of Fame plaques

Ken Griffey Jr. will wear a Seattle Mariners hat on his Hall of Fame plaque, while Mike Piazza will don a New York Mets cap.

The only real drama was whether Junior would wear his cap backward. Much to the chagrin of many, Griffey said he will have his hat facing forward.

The two new Hall of Famers made the announcement at a news conference Thursday, one day after being elected on the 2016 Hall of Fame ballot. Griffey received a record 99.3 percent of the vote in his first year of eligibility, and Piazza earned 83 percent of the vote in his fourth year on the ballot.

Griffey spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Mariners before spending parts of nine seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and parts of one season with the Chicago White Sox. He returned to Seattle for the final season and a half of his 22-season major-league career.

Piazza spent eight of his 15 major-league seasons with the Mets, seven with the Los Angeles Dodgers and also played a season or less with the San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics and the then-Florida Marlins.

The pair will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony in Cooperstown on July 24.
