Is it too soon to put Bryce Harper in the MVP discussion?
It was just one great week, but like everything Bryce Harper does, it was one of the greatest weeks in MLB history. Going 10-for-22 at the plate with six home runs, 13 RBI, and 25 total bases is incredible, and it has some sports publications making bold predictions.
No player has put up the numbers that Harper did last week since 1920. He leads the National League in home runs with 11 and is tied for the league lead in RBI with 29. He has a slash line of .300/.435/.655, his 1.089 OPS is fourth in the majors, and pitchers have been trying to avoiding him, as he has a Major League leading 27 walks.
Harper is also getting it done in the field. His 0.4 defensive wins above replacement leads all right fielders. Along with being in the MVP race, Harper could also be in the running for the Gold Glove.
This season the critics are finally silenced, so far, and Harper’s game is matching his super-star status.
