Hall to undergo surgery for prostate cancer

Published Nov. 2, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Arizona Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall will undergo surgery for prostate cancer on November 8, the team announced Tuesday.

Hall, 42, revealed in September that the disease had been caught in the early stages and he expected to make a full recovery. He learned of his diagnosis in a routine check-up.

"We have heard from so many people in the Arizona community and across the country, including those who have also beaten the disease, and it gives me even more optimism that I will do the same," Hall said.

"My goal in making this so public is to encourage other males over 40 to get tested now, as it can literally save your life."

Hall has served as Diamondbacks president since September, 2006. CEO was added to his title in 2009.
