Cardinals center fielder Randy Grichuk will join left fielder Matt Holliday on the disabled list with a right elbow strain, the team announced Monday.

Grichuk, a candidate for NL Rookie of the Year and whose emergence came during Holliday's first DL stint, was forced out of Sunday's game tightness in his throwing elbow. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Monday.

The 23-year-old has played superbly as the club's regular center fielder while batting .284 with 15 home runs, third on the team. He owns an impressive .894 OPS in 85 games this season.

Now he joins Holliday and John Jay on the disabled list with a potential return not until September.

The Cardinals have survived injuries with the help of their young talent, which includes rookie Stephen Piscotty, who figures to stay busy.
