Former Marlins GM Dan Jennings to join Nationals front office
The 2015 season was a bit different (for lack of a better word) for Dan Jennings.
He started the season as the Miami Marlins general manager, but after they fired Mike Redmond, Jennings stepped into the dugout and became the on-field manager. It was his first managerial experience ever.
While the decision to move into the dugout was highly criticized, he was decent in the role, leading the team to a 55-69 record. It was clear they weren't going to retain him, though, and hired Don Mattingly to take the reigns.
Jennings wasn't jobless for long, as the Washington Nationals announced Friday that he will join them as a special assistant to Mike Rizzo.
The move was first reported by FOX Sports insider Jon Morosi.
In that announcement, the Nationals said that Jennings "will focus on all facets of the Nationals’ scouting operations."
Jennings first assumed the role of Marlins GM in 2013, but has been with the organization since 2002. Prior to that, he was the director of scouting for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
