Former Cub: Wrigley awesome for fans, but 'a dump' for players
We don't know whether San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner is a Bette Davis fan, but he was channeling one of her most famous movie lines when he recently described his former home stadium with the Chicago Cubs.
Cashner was praising the facilities at Petco Park in San Diego but added a succinct dis of the place now celebrating its 100th birthday.
"And Wrigley (Field), it's a dump."
The setup just makes things more difficult for players, said Cashner, who pitched for the Cubs in 2010 and 2011 before joining the Padres.
"It's bad," Cashner said. "Here (at Petco), we have one of the nicest weight rooms in all of baseball, a big locker room and things are spaced out. You go about your business and make the most out of what you need to get out of your day." He acknowledged that Wrigley Field remains a fan favorite, but still . . .
"Wrigley is awesome, but it's outdated for the players."
