Dodgers to honor late Duke Snider this season

Published Mar. 30, 2011 2:10 p.m. ET

The Dodgers will wear a patch in memory of Hall of Fame outfielder Duke Snider throughout this season and will celebrate his life on Aug. 9 at Dodger Stadium.

The patch will feature Snider's No. 4 jersey and will be worn on the Dodgers' home, road and alternate Brooklyn uniforms at every game starting Thursday, when the team opens the season against the Giants. Snider's number was retired in July 1980.

On Aug. 9, the Dodgers will give away a bobblehead of Snider to the first 50,000 fans at their game against the Phillies. Snider's family will participate in a pregame ceremony honoring the franchise's all-time leading home run hitter.

Snider died in February at 84.
