Dickerson hits trick-shot double, Rox top Dbacks

The bounces sure went Colorado's way Friday night. One bounce in particular.

Corey Dickerson took a pitch from reliever Will Harris that skipped about 3 feet in front of the plate and laced it into right field for a double, starting a five-run burst in the seventh inning and the Rockies went on to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-5.

''We're playing cricket out there,'' Corey Dickerson said he told his teammates as he came back to the dugout.

Wilin Rosario drove in four runs with a single and double and the Rockies pounded out 16 hits, none more incredible than the one Dickerson caught off the dirt.

''I've only seen two people do that,'' Rosario said, ''Ichiro Suzuki and Vlad (Guerrero). Now C.D. is three.''

Dickerson acknowledged that was pretty good company.

''It was a fluke thing,'' he said. ''I'll take it any day.''

Manager Walt Weiss said he was joking before the game that ''you can't throw it too low for Corey.''

''But I didn't think he could hit one on the bounce,'' Weiss said. ''I told him he hit it because it took a good hop.''

Troy Tulowitzki and Dickerson each had three for the Rockies. But that one hit had everyone talking.

''After it bounced and I hit it, it came off really good. It came off the sweet spot of the bat, I guess,'' Dickerson said.

He said he'd gotten a hit on a bounced pitch once before, a single in the minors.

After Dickerson's unlikely hit, the Rockies broke open the game, helped by Charlie Blackmon's two-run triple.

Harris (3-1) allowed four runs while getting just one out.

Arizona's Miguel Montero hit a three-run home run off Manny Corpas with two outs in the ninth. Rex Brothers came on to get the final out for his 17th save in 19 tries.

Montero reached base five times on the home run, two singles and two walks.

''They walked us eight times,'' Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said, ''and with all the hits we had (12) we should have scored more runs.''

Josh Outman (3-0) threw 1 1-3 scoreless innings to get the victory.

Colorado's D.J. LeMahieu had two singles and an RBI, extending his career-best hitting streak to 13 games.

After Dickerson's strange double to right field, LeMahieu hit a go-ahead single. Tulowitzki also singled and Rosario had a two-run double for a 5-2 lead. Blackmon tripled off Chaz Roe.

Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt led off the ninth with singles. Two outs later, Montero homered.

Rosario hit a two-run single in the first off Brandon McCarthy.

Adam Eaton's single and walks to Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt loaded the bases for Arizona with one out in the third against Colorado starter Tyler Chatwood. Eric Chavez's sacrifice fly made it 2-1.

Chatwood's control problems worsened in the fifth with three walks and a wild pitch. He got the first two batters out, but walked Chavez. Martin Prado singled, then Montero walked to load the bases and Chavez scored on a wild pitch to tie it at 2.

Gerardo Parra grounded into two double plays. He also threw out Blackmon when he rounded second a bit too far in the sixth.

McCarthy singled in the fourth inning for his first career hit. It was his 40th at bat and he kept his sense of humor about it.

''The bad thing was I was actually leading the MLB in a category, most at-bats without a hit,'' he said. ''Now I am not. That was at least something I had in my name and now I don't even have that anymore. `'

NOTES: Parra leads the majors with 16 outfield assists. ...Chatwood made his 13th consecutive start after opening the season with seven relief appearances. ... For the first time since the scorching Arizona summer set in, the roof was open at Chase Field.
