Chipper Jones, only you can prevent forest fires ... or start them by accident

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:26 p.m. ET

Smokey the Bear would have some choice words for Chipper Jones after his most recent actions.

Jones, whose love for the outdoors is well documented, certainly angered Mother Nature as he was trying to clean out his fireplace this week. The retired Atlanta Braves star saw his uneventful night doing chores around his Georgia home turn into a nightmare.

Jones says he was dumping out fireplace ashes when he accidentally lit the woods around his house on fire. Jones tweeted about the incident, a seeming sign that the forest fire wasn’t too severe, but a picture his girlfriend captured might suggest otherwise.

The Roswell Fire Department couldn't be reached to comment on the fire Wednesday night.

Remember, Chipper, only YOU can prevent forest fires.
