Blye Jays DL Purcey, recall Carlson
The Toronto Blue Jays placed reliever David Purcey on the 15-day disabled list after Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels and recalled left-hander Jesse Carlson from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Purcey strained ligaments in his right foot Thursday night against Boston while covering first base on Jacoby Ellsbury's grounder. He had to leap to get the toss from Adam Lind and landed awkwardly.
Purcey is 0-1 with a 2.81 ERA in 24 appearances, and opponents are batting .185 against him. He has pitched in 45 games for the Blue Jays over the last three seasons, going 4-10 with a 5.25 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 138 2-3 innings. He was the 16th overall pick in the 2004 draft.
Carlson was 3-1 with a 4.24 ERA and four saves in 45 games with Las Vegas. He pitched for the Blue Jays in each of the previous two seasons, going 8-8 with a 3.52 ERA in 142 relief appearances.
