Austin Peay baseball coach resigns after arrest in prostitution sting

Austin Peay baseball coach Gary McClure has resigned after 27 seasons following his arrest in a prostitution sting.

The university said Saturday it had accepted McClure's resignation. University resident Alisa White said in a statement it was a sad situation for all involved.

Police say McClure responded to an online ad and contacted an undercover Clarksville Police officer. The Leaf-Chronicle reported McClure was arrested Friday after arriving at a location given by the officer. He was booked on a charge of patronizing prostitution and released on $250 bond.

Assistant Derrick Dunbar has been appointed interim head coach. McClure had 822 wins at Austin Peay since becoming coach in 1988. He led the Governors to six NCAA regional appearances and is the Ohio Valley Conference's career leader in victories.
