Adrian Gonzalez hits 3 homers in game for LA Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (AP) Adrian Gonzalez homered three times for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night, making him the first player in major league history with five in the season's first three games.

His third homer leading off the fifth inning extended the Dodgers' lead to 6-2. All three came off Padres starter Andrew Cashner.

Gonzalez homered in the first and again leading off the third, giving him homers in four consecutive at-bats dating to Tuesday. He singled in the sixth.

It's the first three-homer game of the 32-year-old first baseman's career. Gonzalez is the first Dodger to hit three in a game since teammate Juan Uribe did so against Arizona on Sept. 9, 2013.

Gonzalez's five homers in the first three games made major league history, according to information provided to the Dodgers by the Elias Sports Bureau.

He's the third player in franchise history to homer in his first three games, joining Jimmy Wynn in 1974 and Carl Furillo in 1955.
