Falcons release WR Jenkins, DE Anderson

The Atlanta Falcons have released defensive end Jamaal Anderson and receiver Michael Jenkins.

The Falcons announced the moves Friday, the opening day of training camp. By cutting the former first-round draft picks, the team clears $7.8 million under the salary cap.

Anderson was the eighth overall pick by Atlanta in 2007 but never developed into a pass-rushing force. He had only 3.5 sacks in four seasons.

Jenkins was drafted 29th overall by the Falcons in 2004. He spent most of his career as a starter but became expendable when Atlanta traded up to draft Julio Jones this year.

Last season, Jenkins had 41 receptions for 505 yards and two touchdowns.
