Chiefs could have a bargain in new safety Tyvon Branch
Kansas City is known for handing out low-risk, prove-it deals. Just not the football team.
But the Chiefs made a Royals-esque move this offseason when they brought in Tyvon Branch. The former Raiders safety could easily outplay his deal worth up to $2 million.
Moreover, he could be a quick fix for what ailed defensive coordinator Bob Sutton's group. With Eric Berry gone, the Chiefs simply could not tackle at the second and third level last fall.
That's were Branch comes in. When healthy, he was one of the best tackling safeties in the NFL. Watch him come up in the box and stick a tight end 100 pounds his superior.
Branch was a top tackler from 2009-12. He's battled injuries since, but Branch performs the one role a safety needs to perform on the last line of defense.
There weren't many viable options this offseason on the free agent safety market. Kansas City might've landed itself one -- and at a bargain.
