Washington Wizards Live Blog: Despite an awful start, the Wizards got a much-needed victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
After being down by 16 points, the Washington Wizards managed to claw their way back to a victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night.
Here’s a quarter-by-quarter breakdown of the game.
First quarter:
Marcin Gortat starts game guns blazing with 6 points and 5 rebounds, snatching rebounds from both the offensive and defensive glass.
Bradley Beal knocks down a three, putting the Wizards up 7-2.
Markieff Morris continues to struggle to stay out of foul trouble, picking up a foul within the first three minutes of the game. Brook Lopez followed it up with a three on the other end.
John Wall has been struggling with his floater this season, but makes one to keep Washington‘s lead, 20-17.
At this point, Wall has already scored 8 points and dished out 7 assists.
The quarter ends with Brooklyn leading, 32-29.
Second quarter:
Keef checks back in with the second unit and Kelly Oubre opens the quarter with the first basket.
Former first overall pick Anthony Bennett knocks down back-to-back threes.

Trey Burke has been pretty consistent from the mid-range and baseline area, and knocked down another shot from there.
Andrew Nicholson bricks a three – a shot he’s been struggling with all season long.
Marcus Thornton steals the ball on a Nets errant pass, and Burke knocks down the three to knot the game, 44-44.
Thornton, again, steals the ball, but is unable to convert and misses the easy lay up.
He then misses another 3-point shot.
John Wall steals the ball, dunks, but then the Washington Wizards give up a dunk of their own on the other end.
Markieff Morris receives a technical foul.
With 3:33 left, Nets lead the Wizards, 58-48.
Booker ended half with 10 points.

Third quarter:
Wall is fouled by Lopez, who picks up his third foul, and Wall makes both his free throws.
Otto Porter steals the ball, finishes with a dunk and then hits a three on the following possession. He cuts the lead to just two.
Washington gets too comfortable, allowing the Nets to hit back-to-back shots, giving them a six point lead. Scott Brooks calls a timeout at the 8:09 mark.
Markieff Morris begins what would be a turnover clinic by the Nets. He scores, the Washington Wizards steal it again, Bradley Beal knocks down a three and Brooks’ team takes the lead.

Porter then steals the ball again, causing the Nets’ already struggling offense to splutter.
Oubre hits a baseline three to put the Wizards up, 83-80, with less than 40 seconds left.
Morris had three steals in the third quarter.
Washington leads, 83-81, outscoring the Nets 32-15.
Fourth quarter:
Joe Harris opens it up with a two and ties the game, 83-83.
Porter hits two threes, giving him four in the game.
Gortat fouls Lopez, who makes the basket and goes to the line. It could’ve been an over the back foul on Lopez, but the officials saw it differently.
Lopez makes his free throw and 3-point play. The game is tied, 98-98, with 5:53 left.
John Wall settles for a jump shot, but knocks it down. Bradley Beal follows it up with a three, giving the Wizards a one point lead.
Wall reaches in and steals the ball and dunks, shifting the momentum towards Washington.
Wall knocks down dagger three, Wizards lead, 112-106. He then throws a no-look pass to Keef, who finishes with a dunk.
Beal steals the ball from Harris after Booker opts not to call a timeout. That seals the game for Washington, 116-113.
The Washington Wizards didn’t commit a single turnover in the fourth quarter, while the Nets turned it over five times.
The Wizards win, 118-113, improving their record to 7-12.
