'Undisputed' debate: Can LeBron overtake Michael Jordan?

Published Nov. 15, 2016 3:02 p.m. ET

LeBron James told the Associated Press this week that it's a personal goal of his to match Michael Jordan's legacy. On Wednesday's "Undisputed," Skip Bayless explained why he believes there's no chance.

"It's a personal goal," James said. "I just never brought it up. It's my own personal goal to be able to be greater than great. I think that should be everybody's personal goal.

"He's the greatest and that's who you look at. So that's always been my personal goal, to use the motivation he gave me as a kid and I'll use it as motivation now as well that I want to get to where he is. That's never changed. People kind of wanted to turn it into a conversation, but that's my personal goal and that's where I land at."

Bayless thinks that based on some disappointing playoff results earlier in LeBron's career, the debate has already been settled.

"I find it offensive, disrespectful -- I find it downright shameful that LeBron James continues to even bring up Michael Jordan's name in the same breath as LeBron James," Bayless said. "He continues to talk about chasing Jordan's legacy as if he still has a realistic shot of passing that legacy.

"I don't even want to talk about the fact that LeBron is now 3-4 in NBA Finals -- Michael Jordan was merely 6-0 with six MVPs in the Finals. I don't even want to talk about that."
