Yankees sign righty MIllwood
The Yankees added to their starting-pitching options Friday, signing free-agent right-hander Kevin Millwood to a minor-league contract, the team confirmed Friday.
Millwood, 36, likely will require several weeks to get ready, but could give the Yankees another alternative if one of their back-of-the-rotation options falters.
Right-hander Ivan Nova is expected to be named the Yankees' fourth starter, and righty Freddy Garcia appears the leading candidate to be the No. 5.
Another veteran righty, Bartolo Colon, has outpitched Garcia this spring, and figures to open the season in the bullpen or at Triple-A.
Both Garcia and Colon can request to be released if they are not added
to the Yankees' 25-man roster by Opening Day.
Millwood spent last season with the Orioles, going 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA.
