Yankees' Posada has surgery on knee

Published Nov. 10, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

Yankees catcher Jorge Posada has undergone arthroscopic surgery to repair a small tear in the meniscus of his left knee.

Dr. Lee Kaplan operated Wednesday in Miami. The Yankees expect Posada will be ready for spring training.

The 39-year-old was limited to 120 games this season, including 83 behind the plate, as he shared time with Francisco Cervelli. Jesus Montero, a Triple-A All-Star at Scranton, is expected to be brought up sometime next season, further limiting Posada's catching.
