BALTIMORE (AP) New York Yankees rookie right-hander Chad Green has a sprained throwing elbow and is likely done for the season.

Green said Saturday that he doesn't think he will need surgery. He will see a doctor in New York on Monday.

The 25-year-old Green left his start Friday night in Baltimore after just 1 2/3 innings.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he isn't expecting Green to return this year. Girardi said he would ''play it by ear'' in terms of determining his starting rotation going forward.

Green is 2-4 with a 4.73 ERA over 12 games, including eight starts.
