Yankees OF Soriano scratched

Published Sep. 14, 2013 2:25 p.m. ET

The Yankees have scratched outfielder Alfonso Soriano from their lineup for Saturday's game against Boston due to a sprained right thumb.

Soriano was scheduled to bat cleanup. With the change, Alex Rodriguez was dropped from second to cleanup and Vernon Wells took Soriano's spot in left and was batting fifth, in a one of a number of batting order shifts.

Soriano is listed as day to day. He's hitting .251 with 15 homers and 47 RBIs since being acquired in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in late July.
