World Series gives FOX ratings victory
The St. Louis Cardinals' win over the Texas Rangers in Game 7 of the World Series drew the highest overnight rating for a World Series game in seven years, according to data from FOX Broadcasting.
FOX said the Friday night game, in which the Cardinals clinched their 11th World Series victory, garnered a 16.2 rating and a 28 share of the viewing audience Friday night.
It was the highest overnight rating for a World Series game since Game 4 of the 2004 Series, which drew a rating of 19.7 and a 29 share as the Boston Red Sox ended their 86-year Series-winning drought by beating the Cardinals.
The network also said the game drew the highest ratings for a World Series game that did not involve the Red Sox or New York Yankees since 2002.
Ratings for the game peaked during the final quarter-hour of the game, with a rating of 18.9 and a 33 share. The game drew a 52.7 rating and 80 share in St. Louis, while in Dallas -- considered to be the Rangers home market -- the game had a rating of 40.3 and 61 share.
The game gave a big boost to FOX, which claimed the overnight primetime crown with a 15.8 rating and 27 share of viewers. CBS was second with a 4.8 rating and 8 share, while NBC had a 3.5 rating and ABC recorded 3.4 rating.
FOX Broadcasting is owned by News Corp., which is also the parent company of MarketWatch and NewsCore.
