With no good offers, Jays hold on to Halladay
Roy Halladay has not been traded.
The non-waiver deadline passed without the Blue Jays getting an acceptable deal for their ace right-hander, according to a major-league source.
Several teams had expressed interest in the Toronto ace as the deadline neared, but Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi was clear that it would take a very strong offer to pry Halladay away.
The Rangers were among the teams that made a late push for Halladay. It was believed the Jays wanted left-hander Derek Holland as the centerpiece of a potential trade. Holland pitched for the Rangers on Thursday and was brilliant, coming within one out of a complete game.
The Phillies had also been in the mix for Halladay before acquiring Cliff Lee from the Indians earlier this week.
Halladay — who pitched Wednesday as trade rumors swirled — has a full no-trade clause and would have needed to approve any deal to another team. The Jays still control him for one more season — he's owed $15.75 million in 2010, the final year of his contract.
