With Jose Ramirez still struggling, it's time for the Indians to call up Francisco Lindor
Jose Ramirez's days in Cleveland could be numbered. At least they should be.
The Indians shortstop continues to struggle both offensively and defensively, leaving fans clamoring for the organization's top prospect Francisco Lindor.
While Lindor isn't exactly tearing it up at Triple-A Columbus, he would be a slight upgrade over Ramirez at this point.
Through 24 games this season, Ramirez is hitting .179 (15-for-84) with two doubles, one home run and three RBI. He has 17 strikeouts and three walks.
Ramirez has also been a defensive liability for the Tribe this season, as he's recorded six official errors and has undoubtedly cost the team a couple of wins by doing so. One of the most glaring errors occurred in Tuesday night's game, when Ramirez's miscue led to a four-run rally for the Cardinals in the eighth, resulting in another loss for the Tribe.
Even manager Terry Francona, who always has his player's backs, seems worried about Ramirez.
"I'm concerned about him," Francona told reporters after Tuesday's game. "He used to walk around like he owned the field. I always used to talk about his clock (feel for the game). Right how, he's pressing a little and I understand it."
But Francona said he's not ready to give up on Ramirez just yet.
"I don't think we want to lose patience that quickly," said Francona. "I think we're always trying to figure out ways to get better. We want to help our players get better as opposed to just getting rid of them."
Lindor, on the other hand, has issues of his own that he's working on in Columbus. Through 31 games, he's hitting only .259 (30-for-117) with seven doubles, one home run and 11 RBI. But that could all change if he is given the chance to play in the big leagues. And for the sake of the Indians' season, it's probably worth a shot.
