Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy has been shut down with what doctors believe is rotator cuff tendinitis.
Peavy met with the team doctors Sunday, and they prescribed anti-inflammatory medication a day after he pitched 5 2-3 innings against Oakland. He also had been battling flulike symptoms late last week.
The right-hander had surgery to repair a detached muscle in his throwing shoulder in July and had been setback-free so far this spring, posting a 4.11 ERA in 15 1-3 innings. He said the current issue is not related to the surgery.
Peavy said the next 48 hours will likely determine whether he starts Thursday as scheduled.
