White Sox and Yankees play half-inning with 3 umps
The game between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees has started with only three umpires while Bruce Dreckman was treated for a finger injury.
The teams played a half-inning with three umps. Dreckman came onto the field for the bottom of the first, umpiring at third base. He appeared to have a bandage on his left hand and was keeping it elevated whenever possible.
Dreckman originally was scheduled to work home plate, but the assignments were rotated before the game. Crew chief Tim Welke moved from first base to home plate.
Dreckman got hurt away from the field and was treated by Yankees medical staff at the ballpark. The team said he had a ''non-critical injury that doesn't affect his ability to do his job.''
After the first inning, Dreckman huddled with crew members Mike Everitt and Dan Bellino, then stopped for a quick chat with Derek Jeter and showed his injured hand to the Yankees shortstop.
