Weaver hopes D.L. stint will give him time to 'figure out' 2015 issues

The Los Angeles Angels placed ace Jered Weaver on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday with inflammation of his left hip - an ongoing issue that the veteran said has gotten worse recently.

As Jeff Fletcher of the O.C. Register detailed, however, Weaver isn't so certain that the hip is the only thing bugging him at the moment. In fact, he's sure of it: "There is more to it than just the hip stuff. Obviously the velocity is down. The stuff isn’t as crisp. There are some things I have to get figured out. Hopefully this is a good time to do it.”

The 32-year-old downplayed the relevance of the hip ailment as it pertains to his well-documented drop in velocity, but he plans to use this break to get to work fixing the issues he identifies with his pitching so he can get back to helping the team win: "I’m not doing a very good job of that right now. It’s pretty frustrating. Hopefully this little down time will help some things and get me back to where I need to be.”

Considering Weaver's importance to the Halos, manager Mike Scioscia told Fletcher just how crucial a turnaround would be: “We just need to make sure we get this behind us and he can get back on path. Three or four starts ago, his stuff picked up and you could see progress, and last couple starts it’s been a little more of a labor for him.”

After losing his start on Saturday in Oakland, Weaver is 4-8 with a 4.75 ERA in 15 starts in 2015.
