Vogelsong, Sandoval lead Giants past Angels 4-1

Ryan Vogelsong pitched two scoreless innings, Pablo Sandoval lumbered home from first base on Jackson Williams' double, and the defending champion San Francisco Giants opened their spring schedule with a 4-1 victory over a Los Angeles Angels split squad Saturday.

The hefty Sandoval had an RBI single moments before his less-than-speedy sprint to score the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, leaving his teammates and their fans laughing and cheering at Scottsdale Stadium.

Brad Mills tossed two perfect innings for the Angels, who sent almost no contenders for the major league roster across town while the rest of the team played at home.

Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia was irritated to be forced to start the spring with a split-squad game.
