Twins put pitchers Santana, Gibson on disabled list

Published Apr. 26, 2016 9:29 p.m. ET

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Twins' rotation will be without two of its top starters as the team placed right-handers Ervin Santana and Kyle Gibson on the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday night's game against the Cleveland Indians.

Santana had been considered day to day after he was scratched from his last start with a sore back. Santana is listed with a lower back strain. Gibson is suffering from a right shoulder strain following his outing on April 22, a three-inning loss in which he allowed seven runs.

Minnesota manager Paul Molitor said the team expects both pitchers to be ready to be activated around the time in which they are eligible.

Santana started opening day for Minnesota and is 0-1 with a 3.15 ERA in four starts. He hasn't pitched since April 19 at Milwaukee and complained of discomfort after playing catch on Monday.

Gibson said he felt ''more than general soreness,'' after his last start. He is 0-3 with a 6.10 ERA in his four starts.
