Tulowitzki out 8 weeks with surgery

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left groin Thursday and is facing eight weeks on the sidelines.

Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd told The Denver Post it was a "blessing" finally knowing the exact nature of the injury after the two-time All-Star had an MRI and a number of tests Wednesday, which ruled out issues with his hip labrum.

"We are planning on eight weeks and will adjust off that," O'Dowd said.

"Like any club we are built around our best players. Even if we were having an average year rather than a bad year, losing him would be problematic."

On Tuesday, Tulowitzki had said his "spirits aren't good" because he was yet to find out what was wrong. He was placed on the disabled list on May 31 after hurting his left groin and then re-aggravated the injury in the first game of a Triple-A rehab assignment last week.

Tulowitzki is hitting .287 this season for Colorado, with eight home runs and 27 RBI in 47 games.
