The Detroit Tigers have recalled left-handed reliever Daniel Schlereth from Triple-A Toledo for their four-game series against the New York Yankees.

The Tigers made the move before Monday night's series opener at Yankee Stadium. Manager Jim Leyland says the Tigers wanted to have an extra pitcher available this week.

Schlereth is 1-3 with a 2.37 ERA in 38 games at Triple-A. He pitched four games for Detroit this year.

The Tigers sent outfielder Jeff Frazier to Toledo on Sunday.

Leyland also says he hopes to have closer Jose Valverde available for Monday night's game. He wasn't available Sunday because of a strained muscle in his side.
