DETROIT (AP) The Detroit Tigers have cleared the way for Robbie Ray to make his major league debut.
The Tigers took first baseman Jordan Lennerton off their 40-man roster, outrighting his contract to Triple-A Toledo on Monday. And after Detroit beat the Houston Astros 2-0, it optioned right-hander Jose Orega to pitch for the Mud Hens.
Ray is listed as the probable pitcher for Tuesday night's game at home against the Houston Astros. The left-hander was a key part of the offseason trade that sent right-hander Doug Fister to the Washington Nationals.
The 22-year-old Ray is 3-2 with a 1.53 ERA, 21 strikeouts and five walks over 29 1-3 innings with the Mud Hens this season.
