Tigers call up Oliver to face Braves

Published Jun. 25, 2010 5:53 p.m. ET

Left-hander Andy Oliver has been called up from Double-A Erie to make his first major league start for Detroit against Atlanta on Friday night.

Oliver was 6-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 14 starts for Erie. Tigers manager Jim Leyland says Oliver also is expected to start against Minnesota on Wednesday.

Oliver's contract was purchased after the Tigers optioned right-hander Jay Sborz to Triple-A Toledo following Detroit's 6-5 win Thursday night over the Mets in New York. Sborz gave up five runs and got only two outs during his big league debut Tuesday against the Mets.
