Terry Collins calls out Mets for playing 'sluggishly'
The New York Mets did not have a successful trip to Toronto, and manager Terry Collins is making sure his team is aware he's not content with the effort they put forth.
The Mets were wiped out by the Blue Jays for the second consecutive night on Thursday, getting shut down by their former Cy Young pitcher R.A. Dickey, who only allowed one run in 7 1/3 innings and led the Blue Jays to a 7-1 defeat of the Mets.
"I was happy that the young buck won tonight," Dickey, 40, said about his matchup with Colon, 42, who was tagged for six earned runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Dickey's former coach wasn't happy, however, and not just because the Mets lost the game.
"We're playing a little sluggishly right now," Collins said. "We need to find some energy."
In an attempt to keep the Mets fresh for their game Friday in Atlanta, Collins said he's considering having the team skip batting practice and stay out of the mid-90s Atlanta heat as long as possible before the game.
