Washington Nationals center fielder Denard Span was a late scratch for Friday's game against the Miami Marlins with tightness in his groin.

Span has a career-high 17-game hitting streak, which is the longest in the majors. He is hitting .406 with three doubles, two triples, one home run, and five RBIs during the streak to raise his season average to .278.

He was replaced by Corey Brown, who will bat in the leadoff spot.

Left fielder Bryce Harper is in the lineup after missing Wednesday's game with a sore hip.
