Sources: Yanks optimistic on deals

The New York Yankees are optimistic they can work out deals for veteran lefty Andy Pettitte and closer Mariano Rivera in the coming week, sources told Ken Rosenthal.

The deal for Pettitte would likely be for one year and in excess of $10 million. Rivera would command more, Rosenthal tweeted.

Pettitte, 40, made 12 starts for the Yankees last season, going 5-4 with a 2.87 ERA after sitting out the 2011 season. He missed 12 weeks of the season on the DL after his leg was fractured by a line drive. The news of a potential deal for Pettitte was first reported by ESPN's Buster Olney.

Rivera, who turns 43 on Thursday, is also a high priority for the Yankees, who missed one of the game's premier closers after he went down with an injury one month into the season when he was hurt shagging fly balls during batting practice.

Rivera, who had hinted he would retire after last season, had successful ACL surgery on June 12 and has stated his desire to return and write a different ending to his career.
