Sources: NL West pursuing Nolasco

Not surprisingly, the heaviest action on Marlins right-hander Ricky Nolasco is coming from the hotly contested NL West.

Four of the five teams in the West — the Giants, Dodgers, Padres and Rockies — have expressed interest in Nolasco, according to major-league sources.

The Orioles, another team in need of starting pitching, also like Nolasco, sources say.

Nolasco, 30, is 4-7 with a 3.68 ERA this season, and ranks 13th in the National League with 100 1/3 innings pitched.

The Marlins are “kicking around” names in a potential Nolasco trade with clubs, sources say, but not their talks have not progressed to the point where a deal is close.

Money is an obstacle in the Rockies’ pursuit of Nolasco, who is still owed about $6 million this season. The Padres and Dodgers also are among the teams pursuing Cubs right-hander Matt Garza, sources say.

Nolasco, who is eligible for free agency at the end of the season, is 80-71 lifetime with a career 4.43 ERA.
