Soriano put on 60-day DL

The New York Yankees moved reliever Rafael Soriano to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday after his throwing session was shut down a day earlier.

The $35 million right-hander, out since May 14 with an elbow injury, was on a 15-day disabled list but suffered a setback as he attempted to begin a throwing session Tuesday, KFFL.com reported.

Yankees medical staff told him to put off throwing for at least another week — and the earliest he can now return is July 15.

"If we felt [Soriano] was 100 percent we would have continued with this throwing program," Manager Joe Girardi said. "He's close but he's not quite there."

Meanwhile, the Yankees announced the signing of minor league pitcher Cory Wade to a major league contract and optioned reliever Kevin Whelan to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room.

Wade last pitched in the majors with the Dodgers in 2009.
