Sizemore probably won't make opener

Published Mar. 1, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Cleveland Indians general manager Chris Antonetti says it's ''less likely'' that center fielder Grady Sizemore will be ready for opening day as he recovers from knee surgery.

Sizemore underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee last June after playing in only 33 games. He's been limited in training camp as he recovers, and while the Indians have been encouraged by his progress, Antonetti said Tuesday that Sizemore has a ways to go.

Antonetti said it's still possible Sizemore could be ready for the April 1 home opener against Chicago, but that ''it's less likely than more likely'' that he will be with the club when it plays the White Sox.

Sizemore has only taken batting practice, done some throwing and is running at half-speed so far in camp.
