Scully is Rose Parade grand marshal

Published Sep. 5, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Vin Scully will serve as grand marshal of the 125th Rose Parade on New Year's Day in Pasadena.

The beloved broadcaster for the Los Angeles Dodgers will be joined by his wife, Sandi, for the 5-mile ride down Colorado Boulevard on Jan. 1.

Scully tells The Associated Press that his first reaction to being chosen was, "Wow." The 85-year-old broadcaster says he thinks he was tapped for the honor because he's been around a long time and that the current success of the Dodgers has something to do with it.

Tournament of Roses President R. Scott Jenkins says he chose Scully because he's an accomplished person who possesses humility and integrity.
