Royals C Perez out with concussion

All-Star catcher Salvador Perez, who was struck in the mask by a foul ball in the Kansas City Royals' win over the New York Mets on Saturday is going on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

Perez came on for defense and was injured in the 12th inning. He finished the game but was sent to the hospital for tests because of a headache. The Royals recalled catcher Brett Hayes from Triple-A Omaha on Sunday to replace him.

Kansas City was also without right-handed pitcher Wade Davis, who is on the family emergency list, because of a medical situation regarding his brother. Davis, who left Saturday's 4-3 win over the Mets in the first inning, isn't slated to pitch until Wednesday against Minnesota.

The Royals recalled left-hander Will Smith from Omaha on Sunday. He is expected to be used out of the bullpen.
