The Kansas City Royals have added infield depth by making a trade with the Minnesota Twins for Jamey Carroll.

The Twins will get either a player to be named or cash. The deal was announced after both teams played Sunday.

The Royals beat Boston 4-3 and are in playoff contention.

The 39-year-old Carroll singled and scored for the Twins in their 5-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. He is hitting .230 with nine RBIs.
