Ross Detwiler, Rangers part ways

The Texas Rangers have released lefty Ross Detwiler, it was reported Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News on Wednesday. The 29-year-old refused an outright assignment to Triple-A and was subsequently waived by the club. He can become a free agent on Friday if/when he clears waivers.

Because of the $3.45 million the Rangers committed to Detwiler this season, they'll have to pay the remaining total of that contract no matter where he heads next.

Detwiler, who began the season in the Rangers' rotation due to their various pitcher injuries, had little success - he went 0-5 with 6.95 ERA in seven starts before being bounced back into a bullpen role. He didn't do very well there either, prompting the Rangers to make a decision as they look ahead to the second half.

Considering the fact that Detwiler is a left-handed pitcher with a moderately successful track record from his years with the Washington Nationals, he should presumably be able to find a new employer relatively soon.
