An injury to Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon benefited a couple of Rockies. Despite not winning the Final Vote on Friday, Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was named to the All-Star team as a replacement for Gordon. This will be Tulowitzki’s fifth All-Star appearance which ties first baseman Todd Helton for the most selections in Rockies history, according to the Denver Post.

Gordon’s injury also prompted NL All-Star manager Bruce Bochy to name Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu as the starter in Tuesday’s game.

Tulowitzki was the last piece of the Coors Shield named to the team. The Coors Shield was a nickname chosen by fans via Rockies blog Purple Row to refer to the stout Rockies infield of LeMahieu, Tulowitzki and third baseman Nolan Arenado who is also an All-Star this year. Rockies manager Walt Weiss spoke about his infielders:

"It really speaks volume about our infield...Gold Glovers all around. It's pretty special."

Per the Post, this is the first time in Rockies history that three players are selected to the same All-Star team.
