Rockies place Wigginton on 15-day DL

Published May. 3, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Colorado Rockies infielder Ty Wigginton has been placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a strained left oblique and third baseman Ian Stewart was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Wigginton's trip to the DL is his first since 2009 and is retroactive to April 27.

Wigginton was hitting .233 with two homers and 20 RBIs in 20 games for the Rockies when he got hurt.

Stewart was sent to the minors to get more at-bats after an injury-riddled spring led to a 2-for-26 start. He hit .361 at Colorado Springs with three doubles, a triple, three home runs and 13 RBIs in 11 games for the Sky Sox.
