Rockies' Arenado trailing in All-Star votes among NL third baseman

The first National League All-Star Game ballot update was released by Major League Baseball on Wednesday. With just over one month of voting left, Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has only received the fifth-most votes at that position despite putting up productive numbers.

Arenado went into Wednesday ranked second among third baseman in home runs (9) and RBIs (28). He also led all NL players with a 1.3 Defensive WAR. That’s not surprising given that he seems to make a spectacular defensive play on a daily basis. Per the Denver Post, his manager said the following about the star third baseman:

“He’ll be in the All-Star Game. One way or the other,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss said after Arenado’s homer Wednesday led the Rockies to a 6-4 win over the Reds. “That’s my campaign speech.”

Arenado has received 309,823 votes, while the leading vote-getter at third, Matt Carpenter, has received 1,113,060. The third baseman has yet to be an All-Star in two major league seasons, but is a two-time Gold Glover.
