Report: Steven Matz to be called up by Mets before end of June
New York Mets fans have been on the edge of their seats recently as reports have suggested that another potential ace will be added to the team's rotation.
Now, a new report from ESPN.com suggests that left-hander Steven Matz will be promoted to the Mets' major-league club prior to the original speculated target date of July 1.
"A team source told ESPN.com it very well might be sooner – as in within the next three week," the report details.
Matz is currently annihilating Triple-A hitters with a 1.94 earned run average and 75 strikeouts over 74 1/3 innings in 11 starts.
Whenever the former 2009 second-round pick from Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, New York does arrive to the Mets' major-league squad, he'll join a corps of young pitchers, including Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and Zach Wheeler, when returns from rehabbing an elbow surgery, that could shape up to be one of the best in MLB if it can remain intact.
